What's the Buzz? Weekend Activity Picks for 8/11/16-8/14/16

There are a bunch of outdoor events this weekend.  I think that it's nice to get the kids out and connecting with nature a bit, whether that entails going for a hike or meeting some farm animals.  (If that means working Pokemon Go into it, then fine! Do what you've got to do!) 

Fairfield County

Activity: Animal Meet and Greet
Date: Friday & Saturday
Time: 3PM- 3:15PM (other events happen throughout the day- check website)
Location: Stamford Museum and Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford
Cost: FREE with gate admission
Overview: "Stop by Heckscher WILD! to meet one of our teaching animals and discover how they are adapted to their habitat. Animals will vary depending on the day and programs."

Activity: Pet Pals
Date: Wednesday through Saturday
Time: Noon- 4PM
Location: Torrington Historical Society, 192 Main Street, Torrington
Cost: FREE with museum admission
Overview: "The exhibit explores Torrington's history of people and their pets. Featuring historic photographs from the Society's collection showing residents posed with their pets. Photos date from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. The Society reserved a special section for photos submitted by the public."

Activity: Open Farm Days

Location: Common Ground High School, Urban Farm, and Environmental Education Center, 358 Springside Ave., New Haven
Cost: FREE (Donations welcomed)
Overview: "Enjoy Open Farm Day at Common Ground every Saturday from April through the end of November. Explore our beautiful urban farm, help dig and plant in the children’s garden, and ask farm staff your backyard gardening and composting questions. The animal yards are open for visitors to meet our chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, sheep, and pigs. Trail maps are available for self-guided hikes in West Rock Park, including the family-friendly Old Oak Nature Trail."
